Dr. Carolyn Van Newkirk has served professionally as an instructor and administrator in public and private schools and also at the college level. She is currently a Director of the Air Race Classic, Inc., the only all-women transcontinental air race in existence today and is responsible for recruitment of collegiate teams and public education for the race. She is also a member of SARAA – Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority which oversees four airports in Central PA and is the Terminus Chair for the 2014 Air Race Classic which will have its final timing pass at York Airport in York, PA and then fly and land at Capital City Airport in Harrisburg, PA during the third week of June.
Carolyn has been a pilot for 22 years accumulating over 1600 flight hours with commercial and instrument rating certification to fly single engine land-based aircraft. She is also a member of the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots.
With her passion for air racing, Carolyn has flown in 20 Air Race Classics, landed in all 48 continental states – some multiple times - and in several Canadian provinces.
On June 23, 2011, along with her copilot, Ms. Carol Church, Carolyn set both a national and world speed record for make and model of airplane while flying from Oklahoma City, OK to Mobile AL in her Cessna 182, N21017, flying at 153.46 MPH or 246.97 KMH or 133.35 NMH.
We are excited and privileged to have Carolyn join us to speak with you and answer your questions.
